It is my understanding that when isolating the bearing the straight edge should be touching the fence and the bearing at the same time so the bearing is in line with the fence.
As BJ would say... That's just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks Bj I hope you didn't think that I was trying to correct you. As a matter of fact I hadn't even seen your answer before I posted mine. Yours must have been posted while I was composing mine. :'(
