Bosch 1617 Grommet Size

Hello all: I've searched the forum bur cannot find anything specific to my question. I've got a Bosch 1617 and am looking to put a grommet into the shaft, but don't know what size. I know that some of you have done this. Can you tell me specifically what size grommet you've used and save me a few trips to the hardware store.

Thanks

Vince

I use a half inch diameter grommet, which is just about 1/8th inch thick. It's a tight fit, but the thin edges allow it to slip in place. I used a 3/8 ths dowel to press it in place. That worked in my 1617. When I put the bit in, I basically just drop it in and press down lightly. When you lock the bit in, it will position itself just right and the next bit will do the same. Particularly nice if you're using a door or trim set with matched-height shanks.
measure the OD of the collet and add a fuzz...
the fuzz keeps it from falling out...
3/6'' wall thickness and you'll be golden...
Thanks Tom and stick. I had one in there but it disappeared and I don't remember the size. Will that 1/2 inch work with the concave portion at the bottom

Where can you get a 1/2" grommet? I have a lot of old ones from my electronic days (no 1/2"), and the only ones I find now are all 3'8 " and 5/8".
most hardware storescarry them, big box stores you get them online.

the 3/16'' comps for that...

I couldn't find the grommets nearby and ordered a bunch from Amazon. I have enough to last me another 150 years. There was no issue with the concave bottom in my 1617s.
For years I have used faucet washers, just find one that is 1/8 thick and will fit in the shaft. works great.

I've picked up 9/16"OD grommets and beveled faucet washers, 1/2" x 1/4"(thick). One of those should work and yup, got extras.

Thanks
