How old is this router

 

It's about 4 years old,but prior to this it showed no sign of quitting on me no funny smell. I had made several pieces of molding cleaned it up then nothing?????

John, give Bosch a call. Older models of this router have had switch failure problems. Might be your issue. They have sent replacement switches for free in the past.

John, Most Bosch tools use what they call "smart brushes". What they have done is embed a spring loaded plastic finger into the carbon brushes. When the brushes wear to a predetermined size the finger contacts the commutator and pushes the brushes away from the commutator to tell you it's time to replace. You might want to remove the brushes first to see if that is the problem.

 

I have had the same problem. It is the on/off switch that is the probable problem (Occam’s Razor) and the solution is to have Bosch send you a new one. Just call the toll free number. It is a very simple operation to change one. To keep the router working take the switch out, open it, clean the switch, replace and the router will probably start. Practice for replacing the switch when the new one arrives.

Now I need to know an easy way to change the brushes and switch that that i ordered from Bosch

 

The switch isn't too hard.

1. Make sure the router is unplugged
2. Using a torx screwdriver remove the screws from the top cover, and pull the cover off
3. Using a flat head screw driver you can carefully pry out the switch.
4. There are two wires going to the switch. When that is connected with a knife connector that will slip off, and the other is soldered on. Follow the one that is soldered on and it is connected to the router with another knife connector. Slip off both connections, and the switch will come out. (Make note where that wire connected!)
5. The new switch will also have the one soldered on wire. Feed that wire through and connect it to where the old one was at. Connect the other wire to the switch
6. Push that switch back into the router housing. It should click in place
7. Replace the top cover and screw back on\
8. Plug in the router and test your new switch.
