Bosch & Makita Router Owners Collet Question

2279 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  sunnybob
I bought a grey Makita 1/2" router, and it really works great for the price, I have a question for those who own Bosch 1/2" routers which come with a separate 8mm collet? I have a few good 8mm shank bits that I used with my POF 1200 AE and want to use them with the Makita. I know I can get a 8mm reducer but would rather have a dedicated collet like the Bosch.

If anyone has a Bosch EVS and a Makita 1/2" router could they see if the Bosch collet fits on the Makita? One person who purchased one said it fitted on his Hitachi and Ryobi.

Or does anyone know if they will fit? Any help would be appreciated.

I was looking at getting this one from Amazon:
"The Bosch 3607000645 8mm Collet Chuck is designed for use with Bosch 1617, 1617EVS, 1617EVSPK, 1618, 1618EVS, 1613, 1613EVS, 1613AEVS, 1619EVS, MRF23EVS, MRP23EVS, and MRC23EVSK Routers."

The collet for a 1617 fits on my Hitachi M12V2 and my VC. It also fits maybe a dozen DWs. Here’s that thread: http://www.routerforums.com/tool-reviews/131393-bosch-dw-hitachi-collets.html I also have an older M12V model which has a collet that bears a striking resemblance to an older Makita, as does the rest of the router. There seems to be only so many so I suspect that all are manufactured by specialty companies and not by the router maker. One piece of info about collet makers mentioned Superior Electric and I googled them and came up with a match but couldn’t find collets as one of their products. Which means that it could be the wrong company or that they make collets but only sell to manufacturers that use them and therefore don’t advertise them on their website.

I’ve used the bushings for years without issue. Some members have had issues especially ones who were working professionally which makes me wonder if the bit and bushing got fairly hot and the metal stretched and loosened the grip which might have been fixed by period checking tightness of the collet but?

I use these in my 1/2" makita router.

I can use bits in 1/4", 3/8", and 8 mm just by using them.
had them for a few years and use them a LOT. Wonderful versatility.
