I am starting another clock. This time for my sister. She approved the Texas Blue Bonnets flower for the carving on the clock. I am having a heck of a time trying to model a pattern from the pictures I have found on the web so far so decided to take a break and do something easy and fun.

Wallah! a Bowie knife for my pattern collection.

Playing around with it I created a height map and re-imported into blender to see how it looks. Got this with my process. It will cut! ;)

Hope everyone is having a great night.

OK Oscar you got me!?!?! I tried to rotate the knife. o_O

Very Cool... any chance of making it?
I didn't really have any plans for this model. I was trying to clear my brain from my horrible first attempt at modeling a Blue Bonnet flower.

If you want I can throw it into the machine and do a test carve. I think the details should translate really well.

This may find its way into one of my modern interpretations of a family crest. :)

More fun I guess. Insomnia still kicking my butt. So doing some late night modeling. I present the Arkansas Toothpick model.

This is the model I processed from the height map.

Again no real plans for the model but will go into my library for some future project.

I threw them into the cnc to see how they look.

I am very pleased on how clean they came out. Test carved in poplar with each pattern around 8" x 1.75" x .185".

Here is the height map made from it for your carving fun.

And here is a model (texture added) I made from the above height map so it should have plenty of detail.

I'm sure the originals were utilitarian in nature for 90% of their use. Real Bowie, with a razor sharp back edge, is a superior fighting knife. Most current knives sold as Bowies have a false reverse edge. This "safer" shape still makes a decent woods blade.

Maybe my question is a not off this topic. But I'm looking for a good buck knife. I watched various reviews, for example:

WElcome to the forum, Lewis.

Hey Lewis, there is no any follow up post from you after this. Can you share your experience with the bowie you had after this ?
