So far so good all axis are running nice and free.
Problems I am having is with motor choice, or rather suitability.
The X Z axis is between 16 and 17 pounds in weight, and am toying with 2 X Nema23 3Nm 4.2amp motors, slaved in Mach3, are these going to be suitable to lift that weight.
The 2.2kw spindle weight is not in the calculations..
One other question, would solid couplers be ok for the Ball rods. Thank you.

Strange, two forums with the same questions and no answers, looks as though it is going to be trial and error.

Thanks for the comment, I am not really worried about speed, just that it works. You see I am 86 and this is a project more or less to keep the body and mind active

Go with 2 Nema 23s, 425 oz. and the same on your Z and you'll have no problems. I run 570 oz motors on my systems, but my gantry weighs a lot more due to it being made of 80/20 aluminum. While my system can run at almost 400 ipm I never cut at those speeds.

Try Automation Technology as they have a large selection of motors, and powersupplies plus everything else for CNCs.
