Feeding is a big part of it. The chips or sawdust help remove heat. Same in drilling metal. If it's running in one spot it's rubbing and that generates heat. If you are feeding too slow that can generate extra heat too. The extra .005 on the fence, is that away from the blade?

Is Charles M still on the forums?
You can find out by finding a post he made and clicking on his user name and going to his personal profile. There is a menu bar there with the word statistics on it and when you click on that it gives you the opportunity to see all the posts he made, threads he started, and when his last activity was.
