How to change the wiring plug on a Makita 3600BR?

Are you asking about the plug on the end of the power cord, or something else?

Standard wire colors, I presume. I'd find a plug with a cable clamp that can be cinched down on the cord, given the number of times it will be plugged and unplugged.

I've had good results wrapping tightly with electrical tape. Of course, I also try to grab the plug itself when I unplug whatever.

Welcome John. Are you talking about replacing the entire cord with a factory replacement or just putting a new end on the old one? If just a new end then wire the black wire to the brass colored contact, the white wire to the silver colored contact, and green to green. This will keep the plug "polarized", not that that is usually important these days since almost all hand power tools are double insulated.

There is something called an electrician's knot that keeps the cord from pulling out...used in lamps and other electrical things. Check it out if replacing the entire cord.

According to his profile, he is a retired electrician, So, I am thinking he needs to replace the factory cord at the motor connection. Just thinking. I don't want to ASSUME. That doesn't always work out. :frown:

Issues getting at the switch end of the cord maybe? Some of these newer 'toys' are a b*gger to get into.

Because the 3600Br is double insulated it uses a two core cable so if it's just the mains plug that requires replacing it really doesn't matter which way the Blue and Brown are connected, but if you want to be pedantic then Brown is live and Blue is neutral.
If however you are replacing the mains cable, then as shown in the photo, the brown and red wires with eyelets go to the switch (missing in the photo) and Blue goes to the joiner. I hope that this helps.

Thanks for the Help. I was very surprised to learn that inorder to change out the plug cord one had to remove so much. Got it done, though.

Yup. The designer doesn't care how difficult they make it, they're not the one's fixing it. Glad to hear you got things sorted out.

Sorry for not giving the correct name and confusing everyone. I needed to change the entire power cord.
I found out I had to completely remove the top housing. Which meant removing just about everything to get to all the screws. Wow, wasn’t expecting that much. If I had known, I would have put in a new switch and brushes.
