After much consideration I think I've settled on the onefinity cnc. My next choice is whether to buy the base they sell with it or make one of my own. If I make my own I would want the same flexibility of adding hold downs easily so I would probably use some sort of 8020. Have any of you made your own base out of 8020 and mind sharing details? The cost of the base I'm looking at from onefinity is around $500 would it be considerably cheaper (while still maintaining the same quality) to build my own?

If you are looking at using 8020 to build one yourself remember you need to add machining cost to the total. All the rails and style will need to be machined on the end to accept the assembly hardware and that will boost the price to make your own stand.
