I just saw a very interesting video on TED regarding designing and building using CNC technology. It's about 13 minutes long, and located here: WikiHouse

It describes a new open-source database that is being developed around the world for designing downloadable templates based in Sketchup.

I think it opens up a very broad capability for individual CNC users. There is a growing population of them, and creates a multitude of designs of all kinds that can eliminate re-creating the wheel type of activities. It'll allow folks to spend more of their time perfecting their particular innovations and improving their design skills and products.
