I keep overtightening the nut when putting on a new bit for my Bosch palm router. And Boy ! do i literally pay the price for that mistake. Online Bosch shop have the price of replacement collet and nut at c. £ 30 ....that s outrageous! Further online search has the price down to around £20 ...and thats for 2nd hand or used ones! I wouldnt be too sure ofthere quality tbh. Any advice on this other than not been so aggressive with my tightening of collets would be appreciated....becuase the only tightening I'm doing at the moment ...is my budget.

I'm afraid the cure isn't finding a cheaper source. It is to NEVER tighten a new collet so tightly again. Basically, be very conscious of what you're doing and stop when it's snug. Also, do not bottom the shank in the collet. That could also be part of the problem. You should bottom it, then pull the bit up about an eighth of an inch. This could be part of the problem as well. The other problem is political, the VAT and import taxes. But that's not under your control, conscious tightening "just enough", is. Just looked it up on Amazon and the price for a similar collet is around $20, off brands are cheaper. I always kept a spare on hand, but never used it.
