I stopped using wooden pencils years ago. Now all I use are the cheap Pentel type of mechanical pencils - you push on the eraser to feed the lead. No need to sharpen, or find your sharpener, and you can get a dozen for a $ or 2. Each comes with 3 leads, one ready to use, and when it runs out, just hold the point down and keep pushing on the eraser to load another. You can buy lead refills also, just make sure you are buying the size that fits your pencil. I keep some in my shirt pocket, and in the shop have several in varying places - so when I use one, lay it down, and can't find it later, I always have more at hand.

Crazy good idea, Alexis! It contains the shavings, and it makes the sharpener easier to keep up with around a messy shop like mine. Thanks.

Good one,Alexis, I use those pencils and sharpener too, never thought of that method. just let the shavings dribble on the floor. It would work good in the shop, kind of bulky for in the field tho.

It is an inexpensive solution to help keep your work area clean. It doesn't get much better than that !

Good solution to keep the shavings off the floor.

Nice idea, Alexis. I've always had trouble gluing poly... I think that's the reason glue usually comes in poly bottles.

Hi, Joat.
It is nice to know that you can buy a dozen of mechanical pencils for 1 or 2 bucks. On my next travel, I´ll do that.
Here, that is a quarter or a half of the basic monthly salary of a worker. A mechanical pencil isn´t easy to find and for sure, it worths more than 1$ and, maybe we need to buy a separate 10 leads box.
I just use what is on hand.

The simplest things make a big difference
