I am asking on behalf of my dad. He is 84 and still woodworking. Has Craftsman 315.275100 router has stopped working and he is looking for a replacement. I know nothing about routers and not sure if I should find a used one or a new replacement. Please help.

The skill router is similar to the Craftsman and is reasonably priced

Welcome to the forum @Gina Walton .
If that is a very old model router, I would look for a newer router with variable speed..

There will be a few members from USA who may suggest a good replacement.

If it smelled like burning resin before it went out, get a new one, or one you can eye test before purchase. First thing I would do is check the pawn shops. A lot of times they'll have one that looks unused or used very little. I'd try to find one about the same HP and same collet size. If his old one is a single speed, and you can upgrade to variable speed, that's a plus. Don't buy one with a lot of scratches, paint, dust in the motor, damaged, broken or missing parts, etc. A lot of people damage or wear them out and just dump 'em. Otherwise, buy new.
