Cutting Board

Finally decided to do something with the leftover scraps of wood I've had laying around.

This cutting board is curly maple in center, then walnut, oak, and purple heart, all surrounded by walnut. I finished with shellac, since it is non-toxic. I just bought a can of "salad bowl finish", which I'll give a try next.

My other thought for those scraps -- invest in some pen-turning equipment!

Very NIce Lee :) :)

Here's a tip I got off the Forum :)
Use baby oil/mineral oil it's cheap and it will not turn toxic and it's safe to use on cutting boards.
Plus to keep it looking great just put on a new coat now and then.

Thanks for comments and suggestions. I should have thought of mineral oil! Has to be about 1/3 (or less) the price of the commercial "safe" finishes.

if you use mineral oil which I use warm it up on the stove first
Seems like I remember reading somewhere that it is good to heat up the oil like you said and melt a little paraffin wax into it.
