i have located some formica laminate that is 4 ftx 9ft. for 10 bucks a sheet.

it is older patterns and not pretty colors, but would make great router tables.

problem is, my truck is a chevy suburban. i can haul 4 x 8 sheets of plywood in the back. but id have to cut 4 x 9 sheets of laminate to 8 feet.

i have an 18 volt dewalt angle grinder. would that cut it and if so what blade would you use. i have a metal blade and a diamond blade for concrete. would either work or would i need another blade?

Levon,

I don't know about the grinder but when I bought my Formica laminate for my TS they rolled it up and handed it to me to take home.

That's one *heck* of a great price, my friend! Up here in Alaska Formica brand costs over $100/sheet. Congratulations! You got the deal of the year!!

hey Jim,

i did say that the colors and patterns were ugly, lol and im sure there are blemishes in it.
but i figure i cant beat the price. i would love to build another table in the future.

i also have some large pieces of lexan that were signs, i think they are about 3 ft by 8 ft. they also would make a nice slick top.

thanks to all who answered, i guess roll it will be the answer.:)

Hi levon

I do the same thing, I get the cut off blades from HF , the 10 pack,I clamp a strait edge down and cut it off, about i/8" wider than it needs to be..the norm for me is on the floor on some 2 x 4 for support ( 4 ea.)

Once you have it home Levon, you can saw it to size using any saw including the table saw with minimal or more likely, no edge damage. Bear in mind that when laminating, the sheet is cut slightly oversize and routed to be flush with the cabinet.
In this shot the sacrificial 1/8" MDF was needed to raise the laminate to prevent it from slipping under the leading edge of the fence.
