My HF DC is 15 years old. Haven't had one problem with it. Although, it's in a hobby shop and doesn't run continuously. It only serves two table saws and, the planer. The miter saw, and various stationary sanders use a shop vac.
I used a 35 gal. trash can with a venturi lid for a chip collector. That worthless filter and bag was removed and the dust is vented outside. After a day of planing, the dust accumulation outside is negligible. The chip collector catches most all of it.
For a small, one man shop, the HF DC is ideal...IMHO.
