I inherited a 3.5 HP Craftsman Model 315.28650 / 1/2"Plunge router from my cousin and need everything else. A router plate and 1/2" router bits. I plan to build a router table on my Old Delta 10" table saw. What Aluminum plate shall I buy? Which 1/2" bits should I buyfor home use?

Welcome Ed, I like your shop. Here is the link to the manual of the router manual it doesn't give the info you are looking for but there are some parts when needed still available. You may have to buy a blank router plate and drill your own holes to attach it to the base of the router. It looks like you have a drill press so it shouldn't be a problem. Here is a link to one of many available undrilled Router plate inserts Rockler's Version check around for price and reviews. As for bits by a good one (Freud, Whiteside, etc) as you need it. Why buy a set if you aren't going to use half of them... don't ask me how I know :(
Ed, I can't address your router plate question but your question about bits is a very common one from someone who is just getting into routing. There are a couple of approaches that you can take. Some people buy a set of many different bits where the price per bit is low but, usually, the quality is not best although the bits will work. Then, when they find out what bits they use the most they then buy higher quality of those specific bits. There are probably some members of the Forum who took this approach who can better address their experience.

I chose to purchase bits one at a time as I needed them based on the project that I was doing at the time. Using my best guess as to how much I'd use the bit in the future I'd buy mid-level to higher end bits. Over the years I've gravitated to Whiteside bits. They aren't cheap but they are of excellent quality and can be resharpened a number of times. Once again, other members can comment about their experience with specific manufacturer's bits and which ones they like and which they stay away from. I hope this helps.

Thank you Marco - I got the link for the manual! I think you're right - buy good bits as I need them!
As suggested, I would buy as you go. There are pretty standard bits commonly used on projects and some that eventually find there way to your toolbox.

Maybe someone could take the time to put a basic needs list together... enjoy...
