Fix or Junk?

My Porter Cable 690 VLR variable speed router motor self-immolated several months ago, showering plastic pieces everywhere (I suspect the brushes self-destructed). Online searches reveal that replacement motors are nowhere to be found. Seems a shame to just toss the thing, because I have a complete kit - fixed and plunge bases, etc. Any advice out there?

I would have to see which porter cable motors fit your base, but most of the 690
motors have the same diameter, with a few differences

I had a cordless circular saw and a palm sander that did the same thing. I started taking them apart and the balls from the shaft bearings came falling out. Threw them away.
