freehand routing small parts

some of the clock plans call for a starter pin for freehand routing of small parts. how does this get installed and placed on the table?

First Tom do you have a manufactured table top or table insert if so you will find starter pin hole already in the table top you can buy the pin or make your own. If you build your own top a do not have and insert you need to Simply drill a hole in mounting plate and insert a threaded insert and insert pin. (Picture of building your own pin)

You might also consider building the VacGuard. Click the woodworking videos tab near the top left of your screen. There is a link to all the measurements; this is an easy build and the VacGuard serves as a safety starting pin, bit guard, dust collection port and adds light exactly where you need it.
