Have recently purchase the Freud 3 1/4 hp router. I have enjoyed using this model but have run into a bit of a snag. Inserting the 1/4" collet has proven to be a task in itself. Does anyone know of an easy way to accomplish this. I have problems starting the threads on the collet retaining bolt. Tks in advance.
Make sure the collet is "clicked" into the nut. I have the same router and as long as the collet is secure in the nut, I have no problems getting the nut onto the router.
This same collet design is used on older Bosch models. You need to tilt the collet slightly while inserting it into the nut. Other than that perhaps your nut has damaged threads? I would try taking the collet and nut to your retailer and compare it to the fit of a display model. If it fits different replace it, much cheaper than having to replace a shaft whose threads have been damaged. This should be a warranty item for you.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could
be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
