New to this system, so giving it a try. I live in Canada in the cold (sometimes). I'm looking at buying the Freud FT2200 with router table, $500.oo. Is this the way to go or should i look at the Porter Cable 895PK (21/4 hp)

Welcome Dennis.
Need more info. about the table?
You going to raise and lower the router from under it? The 2200's adjuster knob will be under the table, won't it?
Do you have a lift with the table?
IMO, $500 is a little steep for a FT2200E and a table without a lift.
I got my 2200 for $250 and it's used as a hand held only. There is a PC 7518 Motor only in the table with a Jessem lift.
But, the PC and the lift was over $600.

Neither, try to find a used Hitachi M12V. You can't buy them new so used is all you can do but well worth the effort.

Go to The Woodworking Channel , find "the router workshop" videos and watch them like you're taking on a new religion. Then, come back here for "the rest of the story!" ;-)

BTW, where are you in Canada. We only cover 5 time zones, 9,984,670 sq km (3,854,085 sq mi), we only have 3.41 persons per square kilometre, we speak English, French, Huron, Algonquin, Mohawk, Seneca, Maliseet, Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, Cree, Dëne Sųłiné, Gwich’in, Inuvialuktun, Slavey and Tłįchǫ Yatiì along with representations from every other language in history, on earth and a few extras just for good measure (Klingon, Vulcan etc. ;-))

In short, wherefore art thou bro?
