Good felt for projects?

3007 Views 20 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Cabbie41
I need, want, wish I had some good felt to put on the bottom of some projects I have. What I have experienced so far is some cheap peel and stick felt from to places here in town and I don't like them. I don't mind peel and stick but I can use the other also. So if you have some links to good felt I would appreciate it.

Don, I have bought a yard of velvet at the fabric store, and then cut some thin cardboard the size of the inside of the box and wrapped the velvet tight to the card board and put a little glue on the back and fit it into the box.
On silverware cases, I have put glue on the wood with the slots for the utensils then laid the velvet on and pressed it down into the slots, and formed the sides by hand.

Dont forget flocking gives a good finish for interiors of boxes.

I have made 9 of these crosses and will be making more. I need it for the bottoms. Will velvet hold up? I have seen what I think is felt on the bottoms of lamps vases boxes and other things ever since I can remember.

This is just the question I was going to ask!

I'm looking for some material for the bottom of table lamps that I've turned recently. Many years ago I used some fabric from pool tables ( happened to be in my local pub when the pool table covering was being changed. Fella that was doing the work gave me the old fabric!).
This is cheap but would be too thick for some projects. I like the pool table felt idea. https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p....loors_Floors&gclid=CO7519XkiNMCFQtqfgodcI8L3Q

Lots of options here: CRAFT FELT

Wow, I am also looking for similar material. I'm building some lamp tables, for a friend, that they want them to look like plane lamp tables, but they actually have storage for guns and jewelry, under the table top. Looking for something to line the inside with!!

Thanks Charles, for the Amazon link. They have the brown, my friends were hoping for, that I couldn't find at local fabric stores. Perfect!!

Try Michael's...this link is for the bricks and mortar outlet; the online shopping has a huge range of colour choices (way more than the stores!)
9" x 12" Basic Felt by Creatology?
Lee I might be ordering some from there too. I need to line some new storage drawers in the shop and the wife just called me from Fabricland in town and they want $25 per yd, more than the amazon price plus shipping! In fact, according to amazon the felt is coming from The Felt Store and I just checked theirs and it was 50% more than their own product sells for on amazon. I'm more than a little puzzled by that.
look under felt
cheap 5.00 to 10,00 a yard all colors
Online fabric store

It might be cheaper for here if I bought 3 yds or more. Shipping over the border is almost always a deal killer.
OOps....Didn't realize you wanted to use it on the bottom of a silhouette. Sorry.

I wonder where you can find thick felt. Good felt just doesn't seem to be around any more. I have used 1/4 inch thick felt cut to fit inside a vise to hold things like wood gun stocks without marking them. I lost my old ones over the years and don't know where to buy them any more.
Any craft store and/or fabric store, even Wally World carries felt. I use it all the time. Comes in a variety of colors too. I use a spray adhesive that you can find in the BORGS. Works great and looks good too.

Forgive me Steve but what is BORGS?

I got some felt this morning for my projects in our local fabric/curtain/blinds wholesalers. €9 a metre/yard. Numerous different colours to choose from. Will see now how it works out glued to the base of my lamps.
Lee, you may want to look at the heavy wool moving blanket that Harbor Freight sells. It might suit your needs.
