I have a vague memory of a build like this by Norm Abrams on This Old House. Being a project for your wife's kitchen means half a million husband points, at least. I think this is one of the best DIY, home improvement projects I've seen on Router Forums. And doing it from a wheelchair is astonishing. Even a bright red WOW! is insufficient.
