I noticed he utilized a hefty (4"x21??) belt sander to trim the work. I remember when such sanders were a staple in shops and always reminded me of the 1930's/art deco steam locomotives.

We always had a 4X21 or 4X24 Porter Cable on the job for years, a real workhorse for on site work..
Herb
Herb Stoops: and if I recall, those ol' Porter-Cable 4x21 belt sanders, like the old Mack trucks had a chain drive.
I remember them and some of them had disk sanders. They always ate my wood before I could get it away. I wish they made all sanders variable speed.

A very good book I have by Tage Frid said that he also usually cut his dovetails by hand unless he had quite a few to do. He said there was no time saved on a job with just a few.

Using a magnetic dovetail template helps a lot to keep things straight.
