I would think so I had a friend who did headstones many years ago he used a die grinder with diamond bits.

Just ran across some videos on carving rock on youtube. The one I looked at showed a guy carving a crab on top of a rock, and it actually looked like a live crab. Check out rock carving or carving rocks, something along those lines. I knew rocks could be carved, but not to detail like that. I'll stick with wood tho.
