I had a request from my son to make a guitar pedal platform for my son who lives in another city. I used sketchup 15 (free one) to design a mock up. I then tried to send the file to him using my yahoo mail using windows7 and internet explorer. For some reason yahoo will not allow me to send this file (44k) as an attachment.

I also tried to send it from my wifes laptop with windows10 using edge and yahoo mail...same thing, yahoo mail will not allow me to send a sketchup file (.skp).

I then installed firefox on my windows7 computer and tried again. No luck! Now I am thinking this is a yahoo problem... any ideas?
I am trying to save the effort of converting to another format so he can see the changes to this design. He has sketchup on his computer and it would be easy if I could send this file.

Not sure what the problem is, I haven't had a problem at all with gmail. What email are you using - yahoo? I haven't used them in years. What are the symptoms? Does it simply not recognize the .skp file? You could try zipping it up. Surely yahoo supports .zip

Maybe you have to try saving the file in one of the other formats. It's been a while since I've done it here on the forum but I had to save as a 2D file.

I sent a skp using my at&t email (which uses yahoo) and it went ok.
When I sent it directly from yahoo I got a error.
If you post the file on this forum I would be happy to sent it from my at&t account. Sent me a pm

A few things to try:
1) zip it up and send it.
2) change the file extension, send it, and have your son set the extension back to .skp.
3) publish the drawing on 3D warehouse, there's a link in Sketchup. Then your son can download it from there.

Since this is a work in progress, I wanted to send him the file so he can see it, then he calls me to discuss changes (he doesn't know sketchup). I just wondered if it was a windows thing or a yahoo thing. Seems like a yahoo thing. I've used yahoo since dos5 and it never failed me til now. It just would be easier for me to send the actual file (un-altered). I wonder since sketchup was originally google sketchup if that is why gmail works and yahoo doesn't.

My wife still uses Yahoo a lot because that's where a lot of her contacts with other people and businesses are. She has a lot of glitches, too. It might be easier to just set up a gmail account, and send your skp from that. You can set gmail to forward emails to your yahoo email so you'll be aware of when your son has sent you a revision.

Gary the easiest way to over come this problem (if the file is not too large) is to add .jpg to the file name, so you do not loose the original extension, and your son can remove the .jpg from the file when he gets it so he can open it in sketchup.

Changing file name

I tried to add .jpg to the file name and it attached ok, then mailed it to myself, then downloaded the file and deleted the .jpg to keep the original file name. It looked good so far but when I loaded the file in sketchup it indicated locked by another user and would only let me open it as a read only file. I have sent this info to yahoo and they are checking on this problem.

That is interesting that it locked the file so you could only look at it and not work on it.

There is still the option to .zip it and this will also save bandwidth when sending and downloading the file.

I am using Sketchup V15 and saved a file, added .jpg to the file name, emailed it to myself, saved the file, removed the .jpg from the file name, opened the file and added things to the file, then saved the file. No problems here.

According to their website, Yahoo does not allow certain file extensions (like .exe) in attachments. It doesn't list .skp, but they may not keep the list updated. Sorry, I can't provide the link (too few posts).

I know this might be frustrating, but my suggestion would definitely be to start using gmail. It's very easy to create an account. I don't think my kids even know what Yahoo is.
