help reinforcing joints

I am trying to find the easiest way to reinforce the joints of hexagonal and octagonal keepsake boxes. I don't have a biscuit joiner, and was considering using dowels. But I can't figure out how to drill the holes to do this (angles, etc.). I usually use splines on my boxes, but wanted to get away from this on these. Each side would only be 3 to 4 inches wide.
Can y'all help?

Have you tried the new "birds mouth" router bits? You can buy them for any number of sided boxes,(as number of sides determines the new angle).

I am also into box making and I have a bisquit cutter that cuts very small bisquits. Some,no longer than a 1/4". Maybe this could also be an alternative.
