Newbie router user here and I greatly the appreciate heaps of advice, tips etc that I have been able to pick up from this site. Against many recommendations I bought myself a Ryobi 18v cordless router - I appreciate the limitations but the value is undeniable and am sure it will be fine for the level of use I will have for it. I have been looking around for ideas to add a plunge base to my kitbag, I understand that Ryobit dont offer one however given the pretty standard 65mm diameter I assumed that I could use one from Makita etc. I have seen some posts on this site that suggest that this will not work but perhaps some of the more experienced users will have some suggestions about options that might work.

G'day Mike, welcome to the forum.
I have just rfecently purchased a Ryobi 18v router and find it easy to use and handy to have around,
Ther is another brand very similar to the Ryobi. I will see if I can find it to see if that router has a plunge base..
I fear that you will soone be looking for a larger router, LOL..... That is what happens when you get into routing.....

Welcome to the forum Mike! I will be looking at a router I can use with a Bosch table saw extension I just purchased from eBay. It is a 93905. I could virtually find nothing online. I contacted Bosch and they finally sent me a cut sheet on the extension along with a dust collection on the other side of the page. I will be looking at a new router, probably the Bosch 1617? It sounds like a good choice but I’ll wait to hear from the rest of the group as a table saw mounted router is a new thing for me. I’ll attempt to send photos of both the table and the cut sheet.

Hi MIke, If you can find a base that's slightly wider inside diameter, you might be able to wrap a thin aluminum sheet around it to make it fit. A large shim.

Ryobi now owns Milwaukee, also both brands are made in China. So I suggest you try the plunge base from Milwaukee first.

I know Hikoki (Hitachi, Metabo-HPT) 18V and 36V will fit the Makita Part # 1955630 plunge base with just a little minor filing for the button to pass through. Both Makita and Hikoki (formerly Hitachi Koki) are Japanese companies and their motor bodies have aluminum cylinders with 65mm diameter with rack and pinion. Makita's strong clamp may crack a plastic cylinder since it is only clamped with 3 strips and not the whole ring.

Also Ryobi's height adjustment screw on the motor will not allow motor to pass thru.

This Milwaukee's plunge base MAY fit Ryobi since both motors have a screw height adjustment.

Thanks for the suggestion, was able to find a retailer who was OK with me trying the fit of my Ryobi but unfortunately the plunge base sleeve was 2 or 3 mm too wide with the clamp closed and my feeling was that there was not potential to sufficiently tighten with the adjustment screw. Other that that the fitting incl slot for button seemed to have been designed for the Ryobi. :-(

Thanks for the suggestions and back to hoping that Ryobi base a plunge base on the drawing boards.

If you cut 3 strips of 1cm wide rubber e.g. from a computer mouse pad and attach them in that plunge base sleeve 120 deg apart with double sided tape, that plunge base should be useable with your router.
