I want to make an elliptical bowl about 6" wide and 20" long. I'll use three pieces of 3/4 " wood stacked & glued before or after hollowing it out. No problem shaping the outside, but how to cut the middle out ? Thanks for your help. Dennis in Santa Rosa, Calif.

Can't think of an easy way. The vertical curve keeps changing as the horizontal one does also, only to repeat itself 180 degrees later. You could rough out the inside by using a series of elliptical templates and various sized template guides. Short of doing it on a CNC router, I can't think of a better way.

These shots might help you. I did a photo-shoot on making these elliptical trinket boxes but it seems to have got lost in the bowels of my computer.

Hi Dennis

Just one more way, take at look at the video by Bob R., (of the RWS) how to make a Oval mirror, he came up with a neat way and to keep the oval true on all sides of the oval.
