I am a retired farmer, otr truck driver and jack of all things and master of none. Just getting back to work after a couple yrs. off. Upgraded my shop with a cnc router, Longmill 30x30, about a year and half ago and small Laguna table saw. My old Craftsman bench top router table wasn't big enough for some projects I have planned so made a monster 2 ft. by 4 ft. router table. and of course needed a bigger router and more bits for picture frames and doors. And then decided to get into pen making as I have a Comet midi lathe that I use to make spindles and it sits there and looks at me and say's use me more. Didn't realize how spendy they are. You seem to always need another tool. But it is enjoyable fun with all the various pen styles to make. That about covers it for me. Almost forgot, redoing the family 112 year old farm house, made of real wood not this fast growth c--p. All for now. Looking forward to all things wood. WLW

Glad you decided to join the fun. I make picture frames for my wife. The price of wood is a killer though. My wife bought me a Lion Miter Trimmer for making baby behind smooth, exact 45 degree corners. But I do my basic cutting on a Laguna table saw. Nice tool. Here's the trimmer:

I make my rough 45 either with a sliding miter, but get a cleaner miter cut with this miter gauge, which has a sliding arm and stop block to I can cut opposite sides to exact length. The trimmer shaves off about 1/16 inch and leaves a very smooth cut.

I keep thinking I need to start making my own hardwood frame stock. The commercial stuff always has a warped or split end so I have to buy two strips. If I make my own from shorter, straight pieces, cut my own profiles, I think I can cut the costs a bit. That stuff is through the roof lately.

Have the Incra table saw fence and keep looking at the miter. Have Kregs miter and it works ok. If I get making picture frame's more often I am going to look seriously at the chopper. Thks for the welcome WLW
Hi, The Lion Trimmer was from Grizzly tools. Miter Trimmer at Grizzly.com
