I would like to say hello to all. I am Pathway werks from Northwern WI. I am widowed and have since built my own home here. I love to work with wood and I sell many of my items to locals and tourists. These include yard art, pic-nik tables, bird houses, Feeders, etc. I also dabble with wood carving and would like to try chain saw carving .I am hoping to meet new friends and perhaps pick up on some good tips from the more experienced on this forum. Glad to be here.

Hi Patti

Can you please post a snapshot of the "chain saw carving" you have done.
I gave it a try a time or two and used my side grinder with the chain saw blade and a small elec.chain saw and low and behold I found a new way to make tons of fire wood chips :) (fire starter chips) No art just a new way to take a nice log down to a pile of chips.
I tried a bear and it looked like a log with a nose but it did burn well :) LOL

I have a mate down the road that had 3 big trees along the side of the road that died so it took his chain saw and cut out two bears and a eagle, great stuff and the county came by and said cut them down because it's now a sign, not a tree anymore , they where about 2 1/2 to 3 ft. in dia. , great art.
I think they were old cotton wood trees.
I know you said you wanted to give a try but if you a snapshot of what you have tried please post one or two.

Thanks
Bj :)

Welcome to the router forums Patti. Always nice to see a lady interested in woodworking. Especially one who is into more than just home crafts. Maybe you can post some pics of your projects for us.
up a tree?

Hi BJ,
I haven't yet gotten serious with the chainsaw yet, but my brother has done a some nice work at his resort and on a tree in my yard. I have done some hand carvings of birds, dogs, a boat and even a boot with laces. I do have a pic of my bro creating the indian on my tree. I will try to post it here.....soon as I figure out how! Mean while, below is a link to view his carvings. Just scroll to the bottom and click on the sculptures tab.

or just type : Shorewood Resort in your browser and it will come up.
I am having trouble with the insert image button!
can you tell me what I'm not doing right?

Bj,
The bear is one of a dozen or more I have made to sell in my log cabin gift shop, which is a 12'X12' made from husky landscape timbers.I am including pix of it and some of the my other items. Between me, my brother and a friend, we managed a likeness of Hulk Hogan...sort of! I hope you all enjoy viewing them. Thanks!

I see your pictures are very big (in file size) you can get the program below for FREE that will help you upload them to the forum ,it will let you rersize them on the fly so they will upload quicker. :)
The program is called IrfanView get it from the same ▼
http://www.irfanview.com

It's a great tool and it's FREE for the downloading :)
It will take a jpg file that's 850kb down to 22kb in a snap so you email it from the same program or upload to the web.
Besure to get the free plugins also. :)
_______________

I take it that this is the Boss in the snapshot below :)

Just a quick note***I did rework one of your pictures,it was over a meg.in size, it's now 83kb in size, just a quick show and tell thing.
Click on the picture and you will see how much faster it is to load up and view. :)
