Jig for working on round bamboo poles

707 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  old55
Hi everyone. I'm working exclusively with bamboo poles and would like to use my router to create some lamps from it.

What would be your advice to create a jig that gives me the possibility to maintain the bamboo and the possibility to create vertical or horizontal holes like the image below.

Thanks a lot for your ideas!

I would use a table mounted router and a double fence, one on each side of the bamboo. You can mark the start and stop points for each opening on the fence. Put a strip of tape on the fence to mark stop and start points. Not sure what bit I'd use though.

Welcome to the forum, Julien.
Tom's idea is a good one, but you can use a mortising jig if you made one...
