Jointer blade setting tools?

2892 Views 6 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Glenmore
My 6" jointer came with a setting gage that, well, I gave up on and went back to the way I learned way back when.... straightedge and lots of time.

I have seen these magnetic ones and thought about making one but then maybe if I didn't have to spend to much to get something?????

Getting all three blades set right takes most of an afternoon..... I would like to get on with other woodworking in say 15 or 20 minutes. Anyone have a model or design that they would like to share? I use HSS knifes.... I have two sets and sharpen my own. I also have a hone for little touch ups. I use it mostly for jointing and move the fence to get fresh cutting area so I don't have to do this very often but still......

Hi Ed,

I think you should get the one they sell at mlcswoodworking.com, page46 item #9397. I know it is $69.95 but it has a lot of nice features..... if fact it should do you just fine.

Ed, thanks for the tip. In fact I have that very one and you're right it looks like just what I was looking for. I like the fact it will hold carbide knives in case I ever get the money to buy a set. It seems easy enough to use and should save me a lot of time. It was even nicer because being a good customer they gave me 10% off in my last order, then in this order I got another coupon towards my next order, also 10% off.

Again thanks for responding, I like how you think.

No problem.
That's something new Ed answering your own question. Thanks for telling me what I'm in for I bought a 4" grizzly jointer and didn't get the line up tools. So like you said in your first post I guess I better be good with a straight edge. Yeah I just love it when I get no replies on somethings sorry Ed but like when I get no replys they just don't have that type of tool or don't know how to setup certain things so it is understandable.

I was just having some fun.... And after looking around for about a month I decided on the one mentioned and I'm happy with it and just in case someone else was shopping I thought I would let you all know what I found.

Will that same type tool work for a 4" jointer.
