Hello I'm new the the forum but I'm trying to make a tv stand / stereo cabinet and I want to route the top of it but I don't know what kind of wood wood be a good chose? :help:

Are you working from plans or winging it?

If the timber is not specified in the plans, almost any hardwood will do. It just depends on what timber you have in mind and what is readily available in you area.

Wesley what are you making the rest of the cabinet out of? If plywood you could use plywood for the top as well and trim it with something like maple or popular or even pine and then rout the edges.

What is the rest of the furniture in the room made from ? A good quality ply may help save you money then trim it out in hardwood. Are you working from a set of plans or you own design ? There are lots of woods to chose from and ways to finish them. If the furniture in the room is oak, I would stay with that and stain and finish to match. I like oak, maple and cherry personally. But in my house, if I doing a piece I do my best to match the other pieces so it blends in better.

What type of wood are you choosing. It needs strong, fresh wood. you can use iron wood for that I think.
