Latest Recipe Box update

I made a few more recipe boxes.

With the sloping front to the box, I found that when the top is cut off that the lid becomes shorter and the box becomes larger. So I tried the Rob Corson wooden dowel hinge and it does a good job of compensating for the difference as shown on the red cedar boxes.

Very nice Herb,

I like the hinges, never saw those before. I wonder if our generation might be the last to use a recipe box ? Tablets and smart phones have taken over kitchens everywhere. I prefer the old school.

Cheers,
Dan

Chuck, they are aromatic cedar, the top two are walnut and walnut/ spalted alder.

Great job Herb. Never be able to tear SWAMBO from recipe cards.
Glad to hear that. I have been having mixed reaction, the fast to cook ones go for the ipad holders and the older ones and ones using the old family recipes like the cards/boxes.
They seem to be disappearing at a regular pace though. I was going to build other things but might have to make a few more.

I put a 50-50 mix of water based poly on them with a wide artist brush, over a seal coat of spray can shellac. There are a few light brush marks ,but maybe they will dry flat. I noticed in the past when I let them dry for a week ,the poly seems to shrink and flatten out , then I put paste wax on them and they really shine. I have to wait a few more days on these.
