I am wondering if my elliptical bushings will work well with other jigs. I purchased a Leigh R9 Plus dovetail/box joint jig which I have yet to try. Not because I haven't wanted to but because 12 acres and three mobile homes takes up just altogether too much time. Anyhow I am intrigued by their introduction of these elliptical bushings. From your users experience, how well do they work? It would appear obvious from their geometry that one must hold them in the same straight position throughout the cut. It would seem also that if they work well with their intended R-9 partner then they should work well with any jig intended for use with bushings/vs bearings. So, have any of our members gone there who care to talk about it? It took me all of no time at all to formulate the question while reading the manual prior to purchasing the system. Given that I am neither a genius nor any kind of engineer, then surely someone with more time on his or her hands has already tried it. And never having been to any forum before, I have no idea where I go next.

Not having a Leigh Jig... not worried about it much either.. I suspect there is a market for the thing and good reasoning behind it. I would think that the Isoloc templates would align properly to begin with and not 'require' a offset to get a tight fit..

One of our users directed us to this thread. There seems to be some confusion with Leigh’s adjustable Guidebushings and we thought we should clarify to avoid further confusion. We in fact have two types of adjustable Guidebushings:
The common problem with routed box joints is that they rely on the correct size bit and guidebush. Due to common manufacturing tolerances, a couple of thousandths the wrong way and you either have a joint that’s too tight, or too loose. To solve this issue, Leigh created the patented VGS (Variable Guidebush System). This is a tapered guidebush that threads up and down inside a holder. Rotating the barrel of the VGS, up or down, increases or decreases it’s active diameter. A 1/8 turn of the barrel adjusts joint fit by a mere 0.001”! More information is available on our website. Due to the number of parts and machining required, this is a somewhat expensive system to produce.
To help lower costs and create a simpler method of joint tightness adjustment, Leigh introduced the Patented eBush (Elliptical Guidebushing System). Rotating the barrel of the eBush (left or right between increments 0 and 10, over a 90 degree range) increases or decreases its active diameter. Each increment on the face of the guidebush equals a 0.002" adjustment to joint fit. Using a setting between the marks adjusts joint fit by a mere 0.001”!
The VGS is now used only on the Leigh Isoloc templates. The eBushing’s are used on all of Leigh’s Dovetail Jigs and Finger/Box joint Templates.
