Hi
Just joined the forum, I have just bought a D1258R whiich although is an earlier model was very cheap and contacted Leigh who went through all parts I would require to upgrade to later model. Well, parts are on their way from USA but as I am going to strip down and refurbish I also need a manual . Leigh informed me they no longer supply printed manual and for some reason do not even have a download for it. They suggested downloading the D4 but I would prefer the actual D1258R manual. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to obtaining a copy in either print or download, would appreciate it

Colin,
By the time you apply all the upgrade parts you will have an equivalent D4. The basic functions are unchanged. The quality of the D4 Manual is so good that I used it as a model for operating manuals for very sophisticated steel plant operations and steel processing processes such as annealing. I believe you will be very pleased with your low cost purchase. Leigh jigs are anything but cheap.

Colin, I also have a D1258R, and have the original manual, as well as a manual for the D4.
I can assure you that the D4 manual is much better, and can be fully applied to the D1258R without any confusion. But if you need any specific info from the old manual, I would be happy to scan and email you. Rob in S.Africa

Hi, thanks Rob I am just waiting for upgrade parts to arrive may be bending your ear in a short while especially as leigh told me they do not supply the spacers I have to make them myself. Not sure what the spacers are for. He also said I can upgrade the fingers simply by purchasing one finger from them which has an extra hole in it and duplicating hole on my fingers again not sure

Hi Colin - the spacers are for bridging the gap between the tail ends of the guide fingers, when doing half-blind dovetails - I make mine out of beech (any hardwood will do) machined to 1/4" x 1\2" and cut of to various lengths as required by the finger layout you decide on. I have never updated my jig to D4, but I see what the holes in the fingers are for - they appear to accommodate a nylon rod which limits guide bush travel when doing single-pass half-blinds on thinner material - this video illustrates it - Rob

Hi thanks Rob that explains a lot have just spent the stripping down jig to its individual parts as they were in a state. I bought the jig from an old timer who stored it in an old barn, it was not nice to look at, how ever after I stripped it and refurbished all the metal work it looks as is he never used it, everything is gleaming and waiting for upgrade parts to arrive, just finnished making my square drive screwdriver, they are like hens teeth over here.
