I assume you can get the shape of the lid to match the shape of the basket. You need a cove bit with a bearing to cut the lip in the lid. The bearing follows the outside shape of the lid and puts the coved lip shape used to fit the lid on the basket. Remember, the outside edge of the lid must match the shape of the basket to ensure that the lip will fit.
This operation is best done with a table mounted router.
