Hi All,my Makita sander (76x457mm)will not go straight no matter what. It appears to have only one adjustment screw which almost sets it right,but as soon as I begin sanding again it runs off so that half of the belt is off the rollers.If anyone can advise me on how to fix this problem I sure would appreciate it.All the best,Jamesjj777746.

hi James...
make sure the belt is running the correct direction... see inside for the belt for the arrow...
put on a virgin belt or one that is known to track straight...
the belt may be loaded to one side or unequally stretched from overuse... Also, cheaper models of sanding belts are notorious for tracking after only limited use.... cheap belt can come w/ issues right out of the box... the belt may be stretched on one side.. coarse grit may be an issue or if half the belt is finer than the other half...
clean the rollers, adjustment mechanism and the shoe... make sure the idler wheel isn't loose...
check the roller bearings... one of rollers, most likely the idler wheel may be tilted out of alignment...
check coplaner of the idler and drive wheel..

@stick 486.Thank you Stick,much appreciated. I previously replaced one belt but with another from the same pack & it also wandered half off so I will buy a better brand & see what gives. If problem persists,I shall try all your suggestions & surely one will remedy this tracking sob..Best wishes,James jj777746.
