Milling Wood this summer

Some local friends own a 40" Woodmizer. and were willing to "stop by" for a minimal fee and quarter saw some red oak. This would have been nearly impossible without the the big tractor (green of course!). The wood is stored under the playhouse and will be ready by next fall.

That looks like a nice pile of lumber. You say that it is stored under the play house? Make sure that air can pass through the sawn boards and i assume that you have them stickered. I have seen mold on boards that are not given a Fresh supply of warm dry moving breeze. Good Luck on the drying!
Yes, thank you. I always sticker my wood. In Michigan I want to keep the rain off mostly. The Playhouse is on 4' high posts, so plenty of air movement underneath. I can't wait to check it out when the snow ments here! Bill
Wish I had some friends with equipment like that... I have 6 large pine trees dead from the drought ( 24 inches behind over 17 months in an area which gets an average of 32 inches per year )... and I need quarter sawn planks for the floor of my flatbed trailer...I just got a free 18 inch bandsaw off Craigs list and am dreaming of making it portable and large enough to do that job... but having people stop by at a reasonable cost would be much smarter... looking forward to seeing the projects done from that lumber...
Northern Michigan eh? Could you be more specific...like directions to the playhouse?;);):D

Playhouse explained

Bob, and others, that Google was the Oakland County Courthouse complex..go north..13miles...go east, 2 1/4 miles turn right, walk straight until your hat floats....Playhouse is just on the right.:D I'll post a picture. It started when my son's "fort" was in the driveway turn around and I told him we needed to move it. I put 4 - 20' long 6x6 posts in the ground in a 7'x 9 "rectangle", more or less. I used the green tractor to lift the posts as they were very heavy, 2 ropes, chains c clamps, a boy, and a girlfiend later they were in. To make a long story shorter, 15 windows on sale/clearance at HD and a sliding door wall later and a pull down attic ladder to the upstairs loft. It looks like the Park Rangers Headquarters, the DNR, as we call it here. The hand rails are the step bumpers off the Sierra pickup, 5' long and chrome plated, turned upside down to hide the step pockets. Clever eh? It was an educational "experience" for me and my son age 11 at the time. We pulled up siding with ropes, nailed and screwed on trim, he learned alot. He has never slept overnight there once! "There's bugs out here, Its too cold, it's too hot".....Kids today have learned how to whine like I can't remember us doing, maybe we were the same.? I'll probably turn it into a "biker" club house or a religious temple , form a church and take a tax write off!Off for now, Bill

The building inpector came out to approve a garage building permit and said " Don't build anymore outside accessory structures" I said "OK". That was the end of it...whew...Obama will want to tax me on it I fear or move a poverty family in...worse yet. I'm gonna rent it out to young college girls in bikinis this summer:p....Don't get me started!:D;) Bill
