Mini air pump for routing?

I'm using the dremel router base from Stewart MacDonald found here : STEWMAC.COM : Precision Router Base

Works really well, but i'm finding that I'm having a tough time clearing the saw dust from the fine routing work i'm doing with very small bits.

The router base accepts an air hose, so I bought a small aquarium pump and it was terrible, so I'm looking at getting something much larger.

I don't want a full blown air compressor as the noise will be too much for the area i'm working in.

To put into context, the tiny pump I bought was around 1 LPM (liter per minute airflow-water),
and this one is 70 LPM, or about 4.5PSI.

Does anyone have any experience with something like this?

My first thought was, buy a larger aquarium pump. That was my second thought too; or possibly multiples, they're not expensive, and that'd give you backup air in case one died.

I would think an air brush compressor would work. What does the manufacturer say about what type, and size, of compressor, to use? You did check, right?

And, you don't actually need a full blown air compressor where you are, if the noise would be too loud. You can have it a distance away, and just use air hoses to reach where you are, thus avoiding the noise simply, and you wind up with another tool you can use.

Or, you can always resort to just blowing it away. But, now that I thought on it a bit more, probably a small fan, maybe computer fan, would do the job - yeah, that's probably the route I would try first.

Zach, a better solution would be to design dust collection for this base. You are always better off vacuuming the dust then spreading it into the air. Healthy lungs are a very good thing.

Thanks for the replies guys.

This is basically what i've learned. I can clear the sawdust from the channel if i take a deep breath and blow it out, that will remove the sawdust. From what I can gather, the human breath is about 2-3psi when exhaling with force. Not being a scientific guy at all, i wasn't sure if a raw PSI # translates across the board, i.e. 4.5 psi air pump would clear the sawdust just fine.

I'm using downcut spiral bits to the sawdust is forced back into the groove, but my top surface is smooth, which is what I need. I'm using very small bits, 1/16", so the dust is super fine and get's stuck quite easily. I wear a small mask, but I quickly get light headed with the amount of air it takes to blow it clean every 10 seconds or so, thus my need for an air pump.

I'm not sure how I would collect the dust with this base given the dust is pushed back down into the channel.

I checked out the airbrush pumps, good call, but I'm not sure how they equate to the aqua pumps. Lower airflow, but higher psi. Not really sure which one is more important for something like this...

I would say that Mike has the best answer. That said, probably even a Dust Buster would be a large help.

On the other hand, my small shop's dust collection is a broom and dustpan. I do have a fan blowing from the window out the door, so my solution would probably be to use a paint brush to clear the sawdust. Yeah, I know, but I do have a good dust mask, and with the fan going, a supply of dust free air.
