I don't know who did this, but I am going to fix it!

Disclaimer: We have been going through Mom's stuff and dividing it up between the three of us kids. We are the beneficiaries on the will. My sister is going to buy the house and we will split the profit from the sale.

While going through mom's closet we came across this mess (see pictures). I don't know who did this but it sure wasn't my dad.

One closet repair kit coming right up. I am going to remove the 2 2x4's and the existing bracket, install new boards on each end and new boards for the closet brackets. The existing shelf and ledger boards can remain. Everything should be sturdy and support the shelf when I am through.

Sometimes it's the simple things that mean alot.

I hope to do the repair tomorrow. Pictures to follow.

I guess they didn't know where their local hardware store was at! ;o

I am redoing our guest bedroom. I should say my son and I. He's doing the sheetrock repair and texture. But when he's finished (may take a while since his new job as "handyman".) I talked the Wife into letting me make a headboard feature. She wants the room lavender, so I said lets go with white trim. And I'm going to make a whitewash headboard, that goes from corner to corner, behind the bed. And then two wall mounted shelves on either side (nightstand). Then I'd like to find either an unfinished small chest of drawers or an old one I can sand and whitewash.

The repair is complete.

Sometimes things just don't go as planned. The closet was deeper than I figured and the two boards I had prepped for each end were too short; no studs to attach them to.

Fortunately, we found a couple of clear pine 1x4's in the garage that could be cut down to size. Thank goodness. I was prepared to run to the store and buy a board.

The installation went smoothly and as I had planned. Two new brackets support the shelf and the closet rod, which is about 80 inches in length.

The only thing left is to patch the wall and do a little light painting. My sister can do that. She has experience (and supplies) from remodeling her previous home. She is tickled pink to have a good working closet. As I was leaving, she was getting the Lysol ready for a good cleaning.
