More finishing issues

I have a large round table that I am attempting to refinish for my daughter. Actually it is being painted with a poly finish. When I applied the poly I wound up with cloudiness. I tried using mineral spirits and that didn't work. I have sanded it down with 320 and 400 and ready to try again. Looks like I will have to repaint it first. Thinking of using wipe on poly. Any thoughts or suggestions?

somebody used pledge on the table or the like and the table is contaminated w/ silicone...
the silicone is now in the wood fibers...
the fine sanding isn't helping you here... it's closing the cells..
drop back to 120.. then start w/ finding out which solvent is going to work to get the silicone out of the wood's...
washing w/ solvent should have been step #1...
too fine of a sanding w/ set you back too...
stop at around a 120 grit to leave the pores open and something for the finish to grip...
progressive fine(er) sanding(s) is done between coats of top coat...

Note:sanding too fine from the get go will contribute tremendously to your problems...

Stick's point is a warning NOT to use any silicon product in your shop! Read the list of ingredients on the can. Don't use silicon containing products on your furniture either. Good wax only and polish it with a machine powered buffer, which will do a better job than hand rubbing.
