If this has been addressed, please forgive me, I don't even know how to begin to search for this.

My MRC23EVS has a loose nut. It is the nut that tightens to the body of the router, at the point where the shaft enters the body of the router.

Usually it will come loose in the middle of a project. I cannot tell what the purpose of this nut is for, as I don't notice any performance degradation when it's flopping around loose.

I would like to lock this nut down, but the only way I can see to do it would be to lock the shaft in place. But I don't want to force the issue and break something.

Any advice?

My best guess is that it locks the arbor in position so that the arbor windings and brush contact area stay in a fixed position. Follow Stick's advice. They may fix it for you and then it's their problem if something goes wrong.
