My Dislike Of Amazon

It's probably just me. Most people love to buy throught Amazon, I don't. Sometimes wihen I try to buy something, they send me what I order and duplicate everything that I bought in previous months. Then when I try to return the duplicated items, I can't find a phone number. I will not buy from them anymore. Without a degree in computer science it is impossible. Just wondered if I'm the only one that feels this way about them,

I'm not asking for help, so don't try to help me, I just want to know if I am alone on the matter.

I understand that normal intelligent people use Amazon with great success, I don't know why I can't. The only possible thing is that my computer is set up with a black back ground with white letters so that I can see the screen. That should not make the differerence but something does and it just make me feel so darn stupid and foolish. I have had times that I put an item in the cart and can't fine where to check out and then I can't remove the item from the cart. I don't know why things that do get delivered remain in the cart and I can't remove them.

Amazon would not be so successful in very many people were like me.

If anybody could just get me a phone number I might visit with them and solve the problem.

I haven't had any problems with Amazon getting my order mixed up.

I would venture to say it has something to do with your work flow when making your order. Do you check your order closely to make sure what you want is the only thing in the cart before you actually hit the pay button.

Other than that, I don't have a clue.

Note: If you are using a Windows computer, you can press and hold down the "Ctrl" and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to make the screen display larger or smaller.

I do that alot.

I actually encountered a customer service issue with Amazon today, and it was Router related!

I ordered by first router bit (yes, first... of all time) from them on Monday. I'm an Amazon Prime member, so guaranteed shipping had the item arriving on Wednesday.

This morning I checked the status of the shipment, as it never arrived yesterday. The UPS tracking info showed that the package left Amazon on Monday en route to the shipping facility, but then nothing else afterwards. Apparently the package got lost.

Within Amazon help, I was able to inquire about my order. I chose to speak to someone on the phone. The site had me enter my phone number, and within seconds my phone rang with a CSR on the other end. I explained my problem to her, and she asked if she could place me on hold. Two minutes later she returned. She informed me that she created a new order for me with overnight shipping, and that I should expect the package tomorrow. She also credited my account with $5 for the hassle.

From my experience, this is the standard level of service that Amazon provides.

By the way... the bit is a Freud 12-118 1/2" x 1.25" Straight Bit. I built a Shelf / Dado jig over the weekend, and needed the bit to go along with it.

O.K. I did find a company that sells the micro jig, will have to phone them tomorrow, hope that they sell parts and not just the entire system. I constantly am losing the splitter and need to buy them by the gross I guess. These damned eyes of mine are a pain in the butte sometimes, but am sure glad that I still have as much vision as I do.

It appears to me is that Micro Jig no longer sells direct. All I can find at their web site about buying is where to go t buy the product. Am I missing something, which, obviously, for me would SOP. I have no problem phoning a company that sells the product, but I had no problem buying from them earlier.

I think that they send a pre paid label with any order. All you have to do is send ot back. And check a couple of things and wait a couple of day for them to credit you back your money. I bought a lot of thing from them and never had a single problem. Don't forget when you get free shipping it will take a couple of days.

I can put an item in the shopping cart and then never ever fine where to check out. Once in awhile it will be there but most of the time I can't for the life of me find it and that Is part of what just drives me nuts.
Something just ain't right.

Making a purchase through Amazon is pretty simple.
I have included a couple of screen grabs to demonstrate. Is this what you see on your screen?

First pic - After you find the item you want to purchase, click the yellow "Add to cart" button.

Then you should see the screen stating your item has been added to the cart. Then...

Second Pic - On the confirmation screen, click the yellow "Proceed to Checkout" button.

From there you enter your billing info, shipping, verify your purchase, and place your order.

Hope this helps.

Jerry I use Amazon quite a bit and I have never had any problems. It sounds like you have items in your cart already and when you submit your order it cleans the cart out. I wiBell often put something in my cart that I don't want to buy at that particular moment and I have to move those items to "save for later" before I buy something. I also use one step purchasing so I don't have to re-enter all the addresses and billing information each time. That makes it a lot easier for me. Because of the amount of stuff I buy on Amazon, I also have a prime membership which usually affords me free two day shipping on almost all purchases, regardless of dollar amount. Hope you can get your problems resolved because I find them to be a very useful tool for both research and buying.

I'm leery of the problems of ordering mail order from anyone. I order very little, or, dang little, over the 'Net. I do get email conformations from those few whom I do order from. I print them off and keep them in case of any future problems.
Also, the practice now of leaving packages at the house and not hand delivering has created a lot of thieves. If you are not at home and you have a package dropped off, it is an easy target.

It is easier for me to order online, than it is to drive 30+ miles one way to either Rockler or Woodcraft. I am also on a first name basis with my mail lady and the UPS guy.

One day, I had the garage door open, but had gone into the house to take a break. When I came out, there sat a pkg on the table saw the UPS guy had delivered. :) Another time, I missed him, but he left a note on the door with a lightly drawn arrow directing me to the gate to the back yard. There was my pkg.

Yep, I have had good luck so far. I see him driving down the street and I stand in the drive and hold out my hands...he just honks and goes on his way. It is nice to have good folks delivering the goods.

Mike,
My experience is similar to your's. Our mail lady drives into our driveway and honks her horn when she has a package for me, I do try to lock the dog in the back yard when I'm expecting a UP'S selivery as the driver is afraid of my dog, but he, the UP'S, driver is always friendly. I suspect it's just part of living in the country where life is slower.

Ok I spend well over $5,000 a year at Amazon. I have never had a problem, but that does not help you. My suggestion is find some one you know who is very computer savvy and set down with them and walk through a purchase from Amazon. Possibly they will be able to see if something is amiss with your procedure or something wrong with you computer configuration. I live in a very small town with very few computer savvy people. I was in the high tech world for over 25 years and I'm the local go to guy for computer problems in this town.
