Nebula wire harness problem

I just got my new Probotix Nebula delivered today ... but that is a story for another day. When I'm not exhausted.

Worked all day to get the machine up, and I'm up against a wiring problem. The diagram calls for a black ground wire to the machine frame ... and no such wire *is identified.*

Three cables are in the harness that are not used:

1. A yellow plug for to run a router; I'm using an air cooled spindle, so that's extra.
2. A parallel plug with no known function; it's not used in any diagram that I received.
3. There's a twisted black cable with a spade connector on it that I *think* might be the ground wire, but it's unlabeled and I hesitate to just plug it in without knowing what I'm doing.

And I certainly don't know what I'm doing with this CNC!

Big stories to come, of course, but if anyone knows their way around this grounding ignorance of mine, then I can actually turn the unit on.

Depending on what features you got with your Nebula you may or may not need the parallel port cable. If you got the touch plate and or the ATL sensor it should be plugged into the second parallel port on the PC. The horizontal P port is for the cable from the controller. The vertical P port is for the accessories.

The yellow AC plug is indeed for anyone using a router rather than a 220v spindle. You can just leave it hanging.

The black cable should be attached to Earth Ground on the back of the Unity controller box. It is indeed to ground the CNC frame through the case through its plug to your house/shop ground. Not 100% sure on this as my CNC didn't come with one.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I missed something. As I said my CNC didn't come with the ground or accessory P port cable.

If the black wire is ground it's a silly, stupid thing to do. Black wires in in electrical and electronics should never he used for ground or neutral connections. If they had only made the wire green it would be a no brainer.

I am guessing it is the ground, but my gosh it cost no money to make the wire green. I never designed a controller using black for ground, but I have seen it hundreds of times. It still aggravates me.

Sending machines like this out to people that have no electrical or electronic knowledge, a DMM nor the ability to use one to trace circuits makes it even more important to use the correct colored wires. Black wires are live, at worst a switch leg in AC, and negative in DC circuits, so I would get clarification.

Exactly as I thought. My late night research had pointed me to the parallel cable being for the ATLAS tool length sensor, so that's correct. The yellow connector had already been discarded as extra ... and that left the black cable. Thanks for the experienced perspective!
