Wow Mike that’s one hell of a job . Very interesting base also. Had to bookmark this for a future projectGary, it took me a while to find my thread, but here is the link to the cabinet I built for m drill press. It has worked great. Hope you find some inspiration.

I can attest to my set up. I drilled all of my cabinet door hinge pockets without issue. That included some tall doors. I think the HF castors, which are outboard of the cabinet, helped steady the entire cabinet/drill press.Gary; this has come up in the past; the DP on top of a narrow cabinet is inherently unstable, especially if it's on castors. You need a fairly wide footprint to avoid the possibility of the DP falling over. A lot of weight low down in the cabinet helps as well. Being bolted to the cabinet gives a false sense of security, if it has a narrow base.
Yep. Mine is probably about the same if you measure the original table that came with the drill press. It is about 10x12 inches. My shop built table is wider, and deeper. The cabinet is 18 inches wide with the casters sitting 4 inches outboard on all four corners.Re Mike's experience; There must be a recognized formula for establishing a safe base width? I think ( without going and checking*) mine is 2X the DP table width(?), with the castors at the outer edges.
* It's poring rain so nope, nope, nope...
The manual may have that info. My delta manual, iirc, has a diagram showing several options for attaching it to a base including measurements and some words about ensuring stability.Re Mike's experience; There must be a recognized formula for establishing a safe base width? I'm not sure where the manual is but from memory I think it said, to increase stability, bolt the DP to a board that was 2X the base. Mine is a floor mount, too. What width does your Delta manual recommend, Phil?
I forgot to mention earlier that my DP is a floor mount and it sits on a castored wood base...no actual cabinet.
