Hey guys I’m new to CNC routing. I am a holster manufacture in Waxahachie Texas.

I am in the process of purchasing a Shopbot Desk Max 24 x 36.

I would like to find somebody local who can do some scanning work for me.

welcome to the forums, Scott.
feel free to jump into the conversations and post photos of your projects when you're ready.
(I'm personally interested to know how CNC is used with making [leather] holsters).

I'm not using leather, we are using thermoplastic acrylic-polyvinyl chloride materials.

Can you provide any pictures of the Holsters?
I'm guessing you need to scan the weapon to produce a blank to melt/form the plastic around, is that correct?

I would need to 3D scan, then convert it to a Cam file.
You would get a 3D model from the scan. Do you want the model or do you also want the toolpaths set up to run on your machine?

I'll check with someone I know to see if he is willing to do any scanning for someone else and get his contact information for you if he is willing to do it.

I appreciate it, yes to the tool paths. My number is listed.
I contacted the guy and his 3D scanner is not working and he is probably not going to get it fixed.

Here is a place in Rockwall, Texas that can scan your item and make the 3D model for you. Scope 3 D - 3D solutions, d Modeling services, automotive, industrial design, oil and gas, aerospace, engineering, medical You would be looking at reverse engineering to get the 3D model.

Again you will probably have to do the CAM work yourself using the model they provide.

I think the full version of Fusion 360 allows you to create a 3D model from a series of photographs. It used to be Catch123 and was free when they were in the development stage of the software, now only available in the paid version of Fusion 360. That would be another choice.
