Hi everyone, I'm Roy and will surely be visiting this site often. I once made my living as a woodworker, building custom furniture and cabinets and doing some remodeling. I later added home building but that only lasted about 4 years before the Saving and Loan mess back in the late 80's when I changed occupations. I'm retired now and building a new home in the mountains of N. GA. I hired a local contractor with excellent references to build everything except interior trim and cabinetry. He's been great and we're shooting for a CO (certificate of occupancy) about mid December. I built the cabinets while the house was going up, followed by the stair and balcony rails. Now my son and I are building the interior doors which we hope to start hanging Monday. Once the doors are on the bathrooms and bedrooms, we're ready for the inspector to grant his magic blessing after which my wife will move up here from FL to join me. The house will still be lacking cabinet doors in the kitchen, all the trim around windows and doors, and the hardwood floors; the wife and I will work on all of these over the winter. I hope to contribute to this site as often as I can, starting soon (when permitted) with a picture how-to for our rustic interior doors. That brings me to my first question for the forum: How to make an easy jig I can use to route for the hinges on the house doors and door jambs. I've done same long ago but would love suggestions which I'll look for on the forum. Meanwhile, ask away with any cabinetry questions or general woodworking stuff and I'll help where I can.
