I am a retired professor with a very small space for a workshop. I have purchased an Incra LS Positioner that I wish to set up on a very old Sears multi use portable table that has a polymer top where one attaches a router under one end (I have a Sears 1/4" under there) and a portable saw (another Sears ball bearing 7" saw) in the center. I have never seen another one like it but its portable and what I have. I also have a Supershop multi-tool as well I have buried under storage stuff.

I grew up in a full cabinet shop since my grandfather and father were cabinet makers and home builders. My retirement goal was to have a full workshop in an oversize garage. I ended up with a two car garage where I have the use of one side for tools and projects.

After seeing what could be done with the Incra system I was wishing I had one of these when I was younger! I realize that my non pro tools are a limitation but one works with what one has. My immediate problem is that both the routers I have (one old Porter Cable & one Sears) are not 1/2" machines and I have obtained a set of great 1/2" dovetail bits to use with the Incra system. I will not have a precision lift system but hope to adjust the bit height with router adjustments.

I do not do a great deal of wood work these days but there are some Post Office Door Banks I want to make the grandkids since I have a couple hundred Corbin Nickel PO Box doors in storage. Once I get going I would like to make fancy boxes from time to time to store high value items. So I am router shopping for a good router that will do 1/2" bits as well as my many many 1/4" bits. I was hoping to convert a router to use the dovetail bit but after reading postings on this forum I realize that that is not a reasonable option. So I joined and want to learn as much as I can from the pros.

Good Morning Larry and welcome to the forum. The person(s) best to answer that question (in my opinion) would be Mike or Harry who I'm sure when they get a chance will be on here and see your request. Love the idea of the boxes and if I had the ability to dovetail and such would copy your idea as I think those are super kewl. My other half wants to make fancy boxes as well but I'm gonna have to get him some vids to watch and learn how to make purty boxes.

Hi Larry welcome to the forum.
I think beings you spend good money on the Incra LS Positioner I believe I would Opt for a new router with 1/2" collect that you could use 1/4" bits with also,a 2 or 2 1/2 hp router would proably be all you would need for all your projects.
